Domain and email health: checking and fixing

Watch it in a short video

Je domein controleren met Domein gezondheid 0:52

Is your website not working or is email not arriving? Then start with the Domain / Email health card on the domain page. It checks the basics of your domain in one go and uses coloured dots to show what's fine and what isn't.

The card on the domain page

Open the domain page for your domain (see The domain page: everything about one domain). The card sits at the top, below the renewal section. Click the title to expand or collapse it. Collapsed, you only see the email column; expanded, you also see the domain column. If something is red, the card expands automatically.

  • The circle next to the title (1) shows the status of the whole domain: green is All good, orange is Needs attention and red is Problem found.
  • Next to each check there's an i (2). Click it for an explanation in plain language.
  • At the bottom you'll see when the check was last run, along with the Check again link (3). Use this after you've made a change.

What's checked?

CheckWhat does it mean?
RegistrationWhether the domain name is registered with the registry. If not, nothing will work.
Status and expiryThe status at WebOké and whether the domain renews automatically.
QuarantineWhether the domain is in quarantine after cancellation or expiry. If so, it no longer works.
Owner verificationWhether the owner has confirmed their email address. This is required for many extensions.
Name serversWhether name servers are set and whether they respond.
ns1 and ns2 matchWhether both WebOké name servers have the same version of your DNS.
A record and wwwWhether your domain and www point to your hosting package's server.
WebsiteWhether your website's homepage responds.
SSL certificateWhether there's a valid certificate, including for www, and whether it's not close to expiring.
CAAWhether there's a CAA record that determines who may issue certificates.
DNSSECWhether DNSSEC is enabled and whether the signing is correct.
MX, SPF and DMARCIn the email column: whether mail arrives and whether your domain is protected against spoofed email.
Spam listsWhether your mail server's IP address is on a spam list.

Which lines you see depends on your domain. If it's part of a hosting package, you'll also see, for example, how full the package is.

Fix buttons

For some problems, there's a button next to the line so you can fix it with one click. Before anything happens, My WebOké asks you to confirm. These are:

  • Update ns1/ns2: the name servers fetch your DNS again from your package's server.
  • Sign again: your DNS is signed again for DNSSEC.
  • Update key at registry: the DNSSEC key at the registry is replaced with the correct one. Your domain usually works again within an hour.
  • Add DMARC: a DMARC record is added that only monitors and doesn't block any mail.
  • Resend confirmation email: the owner receives the email again to confirm their email address.

After a fix, the check runs again automatically. If it doesn't work, try again later or contact support. For a problem without a button, such as a domain in quarantine, support will help you further.

The email column also has Quick setup buttons for your mail provider. These work the same way as on the DNS tab, see Set up email quickly in the DNS.

Domain health on the website

The same check is also available as a standalone tool on our website, on the Domain health page. There you can check any domain name, even if it's not with WebOké. You don't need to log in to use it. If you're logged in and check a domain you own, you'll also get the fix buttons there.
