Chapter 5 · 5.12
DNS in My WebOké and with external name servers such as Cloudflare
Managing DNS in My WebOké
You don't have to be in DirectAdmin to change your DNS. In My WebOké, under My Domains, tab DNS, you'll see the same records as in DNS Administration, and you can add, edit and delete them.

What My WebOké adds:
- Backups of your DNS (Backup/Restore). Make a backup before a big change, and restore it with Repair if something goes wrong.
- Explanation per record. Click the question mark next to a record to see what it does.
- Help with SPF and DMARC, with buttons for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
- The Email settings block, showing the status of your MX, SPF and DMARC, and Quick setup: set the records for WebOké Mail, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Proton Mail or mailbox.org with a single click. You'll see in advance which records will be added.
- Reset DNS: restore everything to the WebOké default, if you want to start from scratch. Any custom records will be lost.
- At the top, you'll see which Name servers your domain uses, with the Edit nameservers button.
- DNS for domains that you've only registered with us, without a hosting package.

The switch at Delivery (1) is the same as the checkbox Use this server to handle my email in DirectAdmin (see MX records: where does your e-mail arrive?). If your email is hosted with another provider, switch it off.
In My WebOké too, you type the priority for an MX record yourself (0 to 999).
External name servers, such as Cloudflare
Does your domain use name servers other than ns1.webawere.nl and ns2.webawere.nl, for example because you use Cloudflare or your domain is hosted with another provider? Then that provider controls the DNS. Anything you change in DirectAdmin or My WebOké then has no effect.
You can see which name servers your domain uses in My WebOké, under My Domains, tab DNS, at the top under Name servers. If your domain isn't registered with us, use an online whois checker.
Set up these records with that provider, using the details of your package at WebOké:
| Record | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| A | @ and www | The IP address of your package (shown in the welcome email and in DNS Administration at the A record) |
| AAAA | @ and www | The IPv6 address from DNS Administration (you may leave this out) |
| A | The IP address of your package | |
| MX | @ | The server name of your package, such as linux2023.webawere.nl, priority 10 |
| TXT | @ | Your SPF record, with include:webawere.nl |
| TXT | x._domainkey | The DKIM key, copied from DNS Administration in DirectAdmin (see Turning on and checking DKIM) |
| TXT | _dmarc | Your DMARC record |
If you create a subdomain in DirectAdmin, also add it with the external provider as an A record or CNAME record.
Cloudflare and SSL
If you use Cloudflare's proxy (the orange cloud), Let's Encrypt doesn't see your server directly. Automatically requesting a certificate in DirectAdmin may then fail. Temporarily switch off the proxy (grey cloud) until the certificate is in place, or use the SSL mode Full (strict) in Cloudflare with a valid certificate on our server. See Let's Encrypt not working: causes and solutions.
Back to WebOké's name servers
Want management back with us? Set the name servers to ns1.webawere.nl and ns2.webawere.nl with the provider where your domain is registered. If your domain is registered with WebOké, use the Edit nameservers button in My Domains, DNS tab. Allow a few hours to a day for the change to become visible everywhere.
